ITI Gifts : About us

Kia ora, I am a maker.  I have made things from found objects since i was a child, and it has not been just a hobby, but a lifestyle.  In 2009 a change in circumstances prompted me to do something with my creativity and in 2010 Iti Gifts online was created once I learned how to make a website.

Iti Gifts is a small, whanau, hobby business created out of an idea to have somewhere (alongside the odd Markets here and there) to sell my hobby crafts and to enable me to experiment with new creative techniques and materials.

When my favourite Maori Gift shop closed, i found it frustrating trying to find NZ made or Maori themed gifts other than from souvenir shops so gathered items from other artistic friends and whanau and Iti Gifts was on its way, with just a handful of products to the list of offerings now available.  With the help of hubby and daughter TeAroha, we're still here offering and provide for all budgets, for locals and visitors, those throughout Aotearoa and those abroad.

We originally started in a spare room, took over a small storage area, leached out into the lounge and hijacked the kitchen table, as well as any other space when needed.  As a result of a successful Pop-Up and Pilot shop (2014-2015),  and for health and family reasons, I am now working fulltime, amongst whanau committments, on building up our little business and continuing to support Maori Art/Craft and Design.

We now have a shop presence located at ITI GIFTS - TOA MAORI, 1184 Hinemoa Street, Rotorua.  (The Map photograph of the shop is old and not yet updated) which was opened on May 2016 where we reside with MEREANA NGATAI FASHION & TEXTILES..

We also sponsor / support worthy causes and look forward to continuing to support art and craft in the local and wider Bay of Plenty district and to provide you with quality Maori design providucts instore and online for your convenience.

Although some of the taonga found on the site may not be made of natural traditional materials we are familiar with, just like our tupuna who used the materials of their day .... we too, are using the materials of our day, in various forms of artistic and cultural expression reflecting our Maori heritage and Aotearoa environment, to bring more Maori designs into our homes and every day lives.

Climb on board our waka and take a cruise through the pages at your leisure .... who knows you might find a little something you like at Iti  Gifts.
